Utpal Bose is a research-focused Post Doctoral Fellow within the School of Science, Science & Mathematics Discipline.
Utpal is a Bioanalytical Chemist using the proteogenomic approach to identify, quantify and functionally annotate proteins present in cereal, legume crops and insects, and processed food products to develop healthy and safe alternative protein-based products. He received his PhD in microbial metabolomics from the University of Queensland, Australia in 2014. Then he worked as a Post Doctoral Fellow in a collaborative project between the Australian Institute of Marine Science and the University of the Sunshine Coast from 2014 to 2016. In 2017, Utpal received CSIRO's Early Research Career (CERC) Post Doctoral Fellowship to work on cereal proteomics-based projects. Utpal joined ECU in 2021 as a Post Doctoral Fellow within Professor Michelle Colgrave’s Food and Agricultural Proteomics group team to work on an ARC-funded research project. He has also a joint appointment at CSIRO as an Experimental Scientist to deliver projects on insect and plant-based proteins.
Utpal uses a systems biology approach, which integrates transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics techniques to study complex biochemical pathways for plants and insects. Utpal has a keen interest in using mass spectrometry and multi-omics tools to maintain and develop new collaborations with external scientists to address ongoing and emerging biological challenges.
