Principles of Applied Toxicology

The course aims to provide a sound foundation outlining the broad principles of applied toxicology. The target market for the Principles of Applied Toxicology”(PAT) is for people who require a practical understanding of Occupational Toxicology and Human Environmental Health Toxicology including people who need to manage or advise on workplace or public health risks.
This course is endorsed by the Australasian College of Toxicology & Risk Assessment (ACTRA).
Cost:  $3,300 (incl GST)
Mode of delivery:  Self-paced, fully online
Length:  Approximately 6 months from the date of enrolment. This course will require a study commitment from you of approximately 10 - 15 hours per week

Instructions for Completing the Course

1. Enrol in the Principles of Applied Toxicology. Please ensure that your full name, email address and company are captured when you enrol. This will ensure that we can issue certificates promptly once you have completed the course.

2. Work sequentially through each of the modules in this course. These form the online component of the theory behind the Principles of Applied Toxicology.

Course Modules

  • The General Principles of Toxicology
  • Introduction to Exposure, Toxicokinetics, and Toxicodynamics
  • Introduction to Toxic Agents
  • Target Organs and Systems
  • Carcinogenesis and Mutagenesis
  • Sampling and Monitoring for Health Exposure Assessment
  • Health Risk Assessment with Case Studies Application in Occupational and Public Health Settings
  • Introduction to Standard Setting, TRVs and Working with a Toxicologist

3. View the videos, attempt the review tasks, and complete the self-assessment tests.

Self-assessment tests

  • Available at the end of each module
  • Unlimited attempts
  • Not graded

4. You will be required to complete an online test to assess the knowledge you have gained. Further details are provided in the Assessment tab of the course.

Final assessment

  • Online format
  • 2-hour time limit
  • Open book
  • Pass grade: 75%
  • Unlimited retakes at no additional cost

5. The certificate of completion is awarded upon passing the final assessment (Badged by ECU and ACTRA). You will be able to download your certificate of completion for the Principles of Applied Toxicology course once you have completed the final assessment.
