Master of Healthcare Studies

This course is an innovative, student-focused course designed for registered nurses, midwives and other health professionals. Students have the opportunity to extend their clinical and professional skills via a structured, work integrated learning program. In addition to a series of structured coursework that will introduce students to the concepts and necessary skills for successful work integrated learning, students will also undertake individual projects/assessment items that address the needs of their employer, their personal and professional development, and the requirements of the program. These projects will need to be achievable within the students employment setting and could relate to clinical practice, management or other relevant aspects of their role. A unique trilateral relationship between the student, University and industry is an essential underpinning of this program.

Learning Within Existing Workplace Requirement

Students are required to complete work integrated learning units within this course.

Attendance requirements

Students are required to be working 0.5 FTE in their clinical setting. All assessments are conducted in the students' workplace.

Implications of failing

Students are required to pass all work integrated learning units within this course.

Admission requirements

  • Into a 120 credit point Masters Degree, a Bachelor Honours degree in the same discipline; or
  • Into a 180 credit point Masters Degree, a Bachelor degree in the same discipline; or
  • Into a 180 credit point Masters Degree, a Bachelor Honours degree; or
  • Into a 240 credit point Masters Degree, a Bachelor degree; or
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years appropriate professional experience.

Course Specific Admission Requirements

All students are required to be employed at least 0.5 full-time equivalent within the area of practice around which they will be submitting assessment work, and provide a copy of their resume, and complete the dedicated form with details of mentor and employer.
